The Carriage House Motel, Suites & Cottages is located in the heart of Wells, Maine, on US Route One. By day enjoy our grounds or explore the wealth of activities that that are available seasonally. At the end of the day, you’ll be able to come back and unwind at the Carriage House.

Wells Beach, Drakes Island Beach, Moody Beach and Ogunquit Beach are all within six miles of the Carriage House. This beautiful area offers more than seven miles of sandy beach upon which you may relax, explore, walk, swim, and ride those waves. Of course, the bold might try some para-sailing at Watersports of Wells, located at Wells Harbor Road or at the Atlantic Ave (Harbor Dock). They also provide boat rides.

Other activities in the area include: scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, whale watching, kayaking. There are daily departures of sailing vessels from Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. Kennebunkport is also close by and offers many sea-going adventures. Come to the office and pick up some brochures!

For the landlubber, there is golfing at nearby Merriland Farm, which features a par 3 golf course and a cafe. There are other competitive golf courses nearby including Wells newest 18-hole course, The Old Marsh Country Club. For the family, there is more than one places along Route 1 in Wells where you may play mini golf. Or, get in the car and try one of southern Maine’s newest attractions … Take Flight Adventures in Kittery (maybe you’d like to make it a stop on your way here if you are traveling north!).

For the bicyclists, bike rentals are available for hourly and daily rental at Wheels and Waves on US Route 1 in Wells.

For the naturalists, Wells has The Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm. There are paths to walk, and the wonders of nature to observe. Very relaxing atmosphere.

There are so many beautiful Maine beaches, attractions and shopping adventures within minutes of the Maine Carriage House!

There are many fine, casual restaurants in the area which feature seafood and steak, as well as excellent desserts. You will have many options for dining in the area. Just let us know what you are craving and we can point you in the right direction!

Wells has many rare bookstores, antique dealers and small shops that will amuse and entertain, and allow you to bring back the special item which will remind you of your visit to Wells.

In nearby Ogunquit, you may spend an hour walking the Marginal Way, a great seaside walking path with benches which overlook the spectacular sight of the mighty ocean crashing on Maine’s craggy coast. Perkins Cove will inspire you with its enchanting small shops and fine restaurants on the cove. Kennebunkport offers a similar vibe with many more offerings and parking.

Also, in Ogunquit is the historic and nationally-acclaimed Ogunquit Playhouse, which brings many of your favorite stars for summer theater.

There are SO many choices, you may not be able to fit everthying in. But, that is one of the reasons that people return to Wells, Maine, again and again. It is so close to metropolitan Boston, yet a world away.
